How to Jailbreak iOS 7.1.2 using Pangu

Pangu Jailbreak
Apple just released iOS 7.1.2 for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch for bug fixes and security updates.
The good news is that iOS 7.1.2 can be jailbroken using Pangu out of the box, so jailbreakers can safely update your iOS device to iOS 7.1.2, and use Pangu to jailbreak it.
Some important points before you proceed:
  • Please note Pangu is an untethered jailbreak for iOS 7.1, iOS 7.1.1 and iOS 7.1.2. If you are on iOS 8 – iOS 8.1 then check out the following guides on how to jailbreak iOS 8 – iOS 8.1 using Pangu:
  • Pangu supports following iOS 7.1 – iOS 7.1.2 devices:
    • iPhone 5s, iPhone 5c, iPhone 5, iPhone 4S and iPhone 4
    • iPad Air, iPad 4, iPad 3, iPad 2
    • iPad mini, Retina iPad mini
    • iPod touch 5G
  • Please disable the passcode as the jailbreak may fail, if the passcode is enabled (Settings -> General -> Passcode Lock On -> Turn Passcode Off).
  • Take a backup of your device using iTunes or iCloud before proceeding.
  • Please ensure you’ve updated iTunes to the latest version.
  • Please note that jailbreaking your iOS device may void your warranty and hence proceed with caution and at your own risk.
Step 1: Download the latest version of Pangu jailbreak for Mac or Windows from this page.
Step 2:
Mac users: Double click on the Pangu dmg file you just downloaded to mount it.
Windows users: Launch the Pangu exe file as an Administrator. Right Click on the Pangu exe and select the “Run as Administrator” option.
Step 3: You should be presented with a screen like the one seen below. Click on the black Jailbreak button.
Step 4: Follow the on-screen instructions. The app will ask you at one point to set your iOS device to June 2nd. To do this, go to Settings -> General -> Date & Time.
Step 5: After you change the date, it should restart the process and install the Pangu app on your iOS device.
Step 6: Tap on the Pangu app on the Home screen of your device when prompted to continue with the jailbreak process. You will get a warning message, which will ask you whether you are “sure you want to open the Application “Pangu” from Developer “iPhone Distribution: Hefei Bo Fang communication technology co., LTD?”. Tap on the Continuebutton to continue with the jailbreak process.
Step 7: Wait for your device to reboot several times. After a few minutes you should see that you have Cydia on your home screen and you’ll be ready to start installing tweaks on iOS 7.1.2. You can also revert back to set the time automatically via the Settings app.

Pangu Jailbreak hangs at ‘Injecting Bundles’? Try this fix

The Pangu jailbreak for iOS 7.1 – iOS 7.1.2 was released few weeks back. One of the common issues reported by users is that the process gets stuck or hangs at “Injecting bundles, please wait ..” while using the Pangu jailbreak, so they are not able to jailbreak their device.
If you’re facing the problem, then here are some of the solutions you can try to fix the issue, and progress further to successfully jailbreak your iOS device.
  • This issue seems to be affecting users on Windows 8 or Windows 8.1. If you’re using Windows 8 or Windows 8.1, then try to change the compatibility to Windows 7.  Here are the steps:
    • Right-click on the Pangu exe and select Properties.
    • When the Properties dialog box appears, click the Compatibility tab and then click the Run Compatibility Troubleshooter button.
    • In the Compatibility Mode section, select the Run This Program in Compatibility Mode For check box and select Windows 7 from the drop-down list.
    • Click OK and then try running the Pangu again to see whether it goes beyond the “injecting bundle” step.
  • If the above solution doesn’t work then try to temporarily disable any antivirus or firewall programs you’ve running.
If it still doesn’t work, then you can try jailbreaking your device on another computer. If you need help to jailbreak your device with Pangu then you can follow our guide:
As always, let us know how it goes.

Imagining the Perfect iPhone 7

With less than six months to go for the launch of iPhone 7, the tenth generation of Apple’s flagship device, I take a look at what would be my perfect iPhone. I am trying to set realistic expectations, so don’t expect me to mention SD Card slot, USB Type-C connector, etc. as it is not going to happen.
A lot of my expectations are also being set by what the competition has to offer, so I am not expecting a holographic display either. So without wasting any time, here are some of the features that I want in iPhone 7, which will make it the perfect iPhone.

#1. Wireless Charging

If there was one feature that would get me to upgrade to iPhone 7, it would be Wireless Charging. Wireless Charging is available on many Android-based smartphones but has its downside. The device must maintain contact with a charging pad to charge the device, but I think it is still a more convenient than connecting the iPhone to a charger using a Lightning Cable.
If Apple does get rid of the 3.5mm headphone jack, then there is a very high likelihood that it will include support for Wireless Charging as otherwise people won’t be able to listen to music with the Lightning headphones and charge the device at the same time. Our readers don’t seem to be too happy about the removal of the 3.5mm headphone jack, but there could be a major backlash if they remove a feature and introduce this limitation.
Apple doesn’t seem to be convinced that the wireless charging feature in its current form adds much convenience. So I expect Apple to introduce a revolutionary wireless charging feature that gets rid of the requirement of maintaining contact with a charge pad. So I hope the rumors that Apple is developing long range wireless charging technology turn out to be true, and Apple can deliver on its promise of cutting the cord.
We also won’t have to worry about Lightning cables which have the propensity of getting damaged very quickly.

#2. Fast Charging

One of my favorite features of the Nexus 6P, that I’m currently using as the secondary device, is the fast charging capability. It is able to charge from 0 to 40% in 30 minutes, and up to 80% in an hour’s time. There have been numerous occasions when I realize I need to charge the device only a few minutes before stepping out. The Fast Charging feature comes in very handy in such circumstances. Apple has already introduced fast charging in Apple Watch, so it is high time Apple brings it to the iPhone.

#3. Better Battery, not Form Factor

The iPhone 6s is 7.1 mm thick, which is already too thin. So I don’t want the iPhone 7 to be thinner. iPhone 6s is marginally thicker than iPhone 6, which measures 6.9mm. It was good to see Apple compromising on its obsession to make devices thinner, to incorporate 3D Touch in iPhone 6s.
I hope Apple will continue to focus on functionality over form factor. Though rumors seem to suggest that iPhone 7 could be as thin as the iPod touch, which is only 6.1mm. I think that would be ridiculously thin and could make the device more uncomfortable to hold.
While battery life is not such a major concern when it comes to the bigger iPhone 6s Plus. It is a problem with the iPhone 6s, and a $99 battery case is not the solution. It is an acknowledgment that the battery life is not good enough. So while it may be wishful thinking, I would prefer it if Apple uses the available space to include a bigger battery so it can help in improving the battery life.

#4. Shatterproof Display

iPhone 6s comes in a beautiful unibody aluminum chassis and glass front panel that is curved around the edges of the display. The 7000 series aluminum used for the iPhone 6s’ chassis gives it a premium feel. But we hardly get to enjoy it, as we are too scared of breaking the screen, so we ruin the experience by putting a case.
One improvement I think almost all iPhone users would welcome is a stronger, shatterproof display similar to that on the Motorola Droid Turbo 2. The Droid Turbo 2 comes with a second lens — the “exterior protective lens,” which makes it robust. Thanks to its proprietary hardcoat, this lens withstands impacts to prevent the layers beneath it from becoming damaged when you drop your device. But there are some
I am hoping that someday we don’t have to worry about covering the iPhone with a case, and go naked.

#5. Design

On the design front, I would love to see a redesigned iPhone 7, and hope that Apple finally gets rid of the ugly antenna bands. Though iPhone 6s is one of the best-looking smartphones and feels very premium, it does not have the iconic look like the iPhone 4 or iPhone 5. It doesn’t really stand out. So while that is not the most important aspects I look at while selecting a device, you expect companies like Apple to push the bar when it comes to design. The perfect iPhone should come with much thinner bezels or edge-to-edge screen, which will make the device much smaller, and make it more comfortable to hold. The bezels at the top and below the screen should also be reduced as a shorter device will make it a lot easier to put the 5.5-inch iPhone in the pocket.
But Apple may not be able to pull off the edge-to-edge screen without switching to OLED display, which has their advantages and disadvantages.

#6. Better Low-Light Camera Performance

One of the smartest thing Apple did from the beginning was to continue improving iPhone camera with every new model to stay ahead of the competition. However, in the last couple of years, Apple has been eclipsed in some areas by rivals like Samsung.
One area that the iPhone 6s or iPhone 6s Plus camera disappoints is in low-light camera performance. Samsung uses a wide f/1.7 aperture camera lens in the Galaxy S7, whereas iPhone 6s comes with only a f/2.2 aperture camera lens. The wider aperture allows the Galaxy S7 to absorb significantly more light, which allows it to take vastly better photos than the iPhone 6s in low-light. So Apple needs to up the ante by significantly improving the low-light performance of the camera. There are rumors thatiPhone 7 will come with a dual-lens camera. I hope it helps in improving iPhone’s low-light camera performance.
So these are the 6 features that I think will make iPhone 7 perfect, and a must-have device in 2016 when it launches later in September. It remains to be seen if Apple will stir up some excitement in the smartphone space with the launch of the iPhone 7 later this year. There is no better company to do it.
What’s on your wishlist for iPhone 7? What will be your perfect iPhone 7?

How to fix ‘startup disk is almost full’ warning on your Mac

We all love our Macs but they tend towards the lower end in terms of default storage space, so many users will inevitably come across the dreaded “startup disk is almost full” message at some point. While you may be able to temporarily fix this issue by deleting any large unused files clogging up your storage drive, persisting with low storage space can impact the startup speed and performance of your computer. To keep your Mac at its optimal performance level and to banish the “startup disk full” message for good, here are some easy steps to find what’s taking up most of your space and how to clear up your storage quickly and painlessly.
Note: It is highly suggested that you backup your hard drive with Time Machine before you take any of the following steps in order to ensure you don’t accidentally delete any needed data.

How to fix “startup disk is almost full” warning on your Mac

Method 1: Find out what’s occupying your storage space

You can get a nice graphical overview of what is taking up space on you startup disk in a few quick steps.
  1. Click on the top left apple icon and go to “About This Mac”
    About this Mac
  2. Click on the third tab above marked “Storage” (on older versions of OS X you may have to click the “More Info” button first)
    Storage - Mac
  3. Look at the colored diagram to see the storage distribution, the larger the bar, the more space is being taken up by those type of files.
The most likely culprits will be Movies, Photos or Backups.  Movies and Pictures should definitely be backed up to a secondary location, as no one wants to lose their precious memories due to a lost computer or unexpected hard drive failure. Use Time Machine or a cloud storage service like iCloud, Google Drive, Dropbox, or Amazon Cloud Drive to keep these files safe. Backups are usually stored iPhone backups, and most can be safely cleared out to save a large amount of space.

Method 2: Find large files with Finder

After you have you have seen the overview for what is taking up space on your startup disk you can seek out and destroy them. But more seriously, you can use Finder to search out and see the exact files, and file size that are taking up all that space.
  1. Open up Finder and go to the preferences panel.
  2. Click on the sidebar tab and make sure “All My Files” is checked
    Finder Preferences
  3. Go back to the Finder window
  4. Click All My Files on the sidebar
  5. Click on the size tab to organize files by their size (the arrow next to size should be pointing down”
  6. Delete all the large files that you don’t need or have already backed up
    Files - Startup Disk
You should delete any large files here that you have backed up or no longer have use for. The quickest way to delete a file is to click on the file to highlight it and press Command+Delete at the same time, the file will be moved to your trash can. Of course, you can also just drag the file into the trash can.

Method 3: Delete old iPhone backups

For folks that use iCloud Drive or simply back up their phones using other methods, you may have redundant files in iTunes. If you remove these saved backups, you can free up some more space on your startup disk.
  1. Open iTunes
  2. Click on the iTunes tab on the top menu bar
  3. Click on Preferences
    iTunes - Preferences
  4. Select the Devices tab
  5. Select any iPhone backups that are older than your most recent backup (you can leave the newest one)
    Device Backups
  6. Click the delete backup button
These iPhone backups can take up a large amount of space, so as long as you have a current one, they are entirely safe to remove. If you would prefer to back up to iCloud instead, on your phone go to Settings –> iCloud –> Backup and turn it on. This will sync all essential files on your phone whenever you are connected to Wi-Fi.

Method 4: Clear out your Downloads folder

Sometimes we forget about the files that remain in our Downloads folder long after we have used them or no longer need them. Doing a quick reexamination of this folder could also help clear up some space on your Mac.
  1. Open Finder and move to Go in the menu-bar
  2. Click Downloads on the sidebar
    Downloads - Finder
  3. Select any items you would like to keep and move them to a different folder
  4. After you have saved any items, press “Command+A” at the same time to highlight all the remaining items.
  5. Control click on the highlighted items and select “Move to Trash”
The Downloads folder is the location where your computer saves any downloaded from the internet, and

Method 5: Empty your Trash

A basic move, but one that will undoubtedly help with space issues.
  1. Click on the Trash can icon on the dock
  2. Go through the files located in your Trash and make sure there isn’t anything you would like to keep or that you accidentally deleted. If you find a file that you want to keep, Control+click on the file and select “put back” on the click menu.
  3. Click the “Empty Trash” button in the top right corner. Caution: clicking this button will permanently delete all items, make sure you have checked all items for any accidental deletions.
  4. Close the window

Method 6: Restart your computer

After following all the previous steps, you should restart your computer. This clears out your temporary storage folder and if it’s been awhile since you restarted you can possibly clear up a significant amount of space. If upon restart you no longer see the “Startup Disk Almost Full” message, then you’re done.
Let us know how it goes.

Jailbreak tweaks of the week: SwitchHUD, SilentMessenger, & more…

It has been yet a relatively quiet week for Cydia yet again, but there have still been some noteworthy jailbreak tweak releases that we’ve shown you throughout the week.
Since it’s Sunday again, we’ll go through a brief roundup of what’s new in Cydia as of this week. We’ll start by showing you our favorite releases this week, and then we’ll show you the rest of them.

Our favorite releases this week

SwitchHUD – FREE

iOS has multiple types of volume switching built into it, but two of the most commonly used are media volume and ringer volume.
By default, iOS always changes your ringer volume when you press the volume up or volume down button, but the media volume can only be changed with the volume buttons when media is actually playing. SwitchHUD makes it super easy to toggle between the two with an Activator action of your choice so you can use the volume buttons for either volume setting.
The end result is that you don’t have to open Control Center just to change your iOS device’s media volume when media isn’t playing. This can help you get to a comfortable media volume with the volume buttons before it starts playing so you don’t blow an eardrum with headphones or speakers.
For more information on how this tweak works, you can read our full review.

SilentMessenger – $1.50

When it comes to Facebook or Facebook Messenger, your privacy is very important.
Facebook doesn’t seem to mind publicizing everything about you, such as when you were last active, when you’re online, when you read messages, and when you’re typing messages to people. On the other hand, Facebook doesn’t provide any way for you to turn these features off, leaving you wide open to internet stalkers.
SilentMessenger provides an array of privacy options for Facebook and Facebook Messenger on any iOS 7 to iOS 9 device, and even includes a number of other functional feature improvements for the apps. With it, you can keep people from knowing every time you lift a finger in either of the Facebook apps.
For more information on how this tweak protects your privacy while you’re online, you can read our full review.

Other releases this week

AlwaysNightMode: Enables night mode in the Maps app 100% of the time (free – review)
BounceEffects: Gives your Home screen various bouncing effects (free)
FBLandscape: Hides information from the right side of the Facebook app in landscape on iPad (free)
FVideo: A Facebook video downloader for iOS (free)
Marquee: Enables auto-scrolling for longer folder titles (free – review)
Passregex: Makes your passcode use Regex, A.K.A. regular expression (free)
StreakNotify: Shows the amount of time there is left for Snapchat streaks (free)
That’s about it for this week’s jailbreak tweak releases, but if you’re still looking for something more, you can always look back at last week’s roundup in case you’ve missed anything.
